Extractions and Dentures

Although teeth are meant to last a lifetime, there are a number of reasons teeth need to be removed. A very common reason is that tooth is badly damaged from trauma or decay, and can no longer be repaired. We offer tooth removal at our office, with the option of Nitrous Oxide Sedation. Prior to removal, we discuss options of tooth replacement through implants, dentures, or bridges.

Extraction

  • Simple Extraction - This is a procedure on a tooth that is visible in the mouth. It involves anesthetizing the tooth, then gently loosening and removing the tooth.
  • Surgical Extraction - This is a more complex procedure, which is used if a tooth may have broken off at the gum line or has not erupted in the mouth. We will make a small incision into your gum to surgically remove the broken tooth or impacted wisdom tooth.

Bone grafting

Once a tooth is removed, the bone starts resorbing, as teeth keep the bone in place. To receive a dental implant, you have to have sufficient bone height and bone width. We recommend placing bone grafting material in the tooth loss site, in order to preserve the bone for an implant. Bone grafting material can be made of different material, but to find out what is the best material for you, consult our doctors.

Dentures are removable devices that mimic missing teeth and surrounding tissue. They are expertly crafted from acrylic resin and other plastics to match the existing gums and teeth in the mouth. Utilizing a combination of suction, friction and tension, the device fits securely in your mouth and replaces your missing teeth.

Patients often take for granted how much their teeth build their facial appearance. Without teeth, the muscles in your face can start to sag, making the face look much older. Dentures help restore the dimensions of the face, giving patients a natural appearance.
